October 14th Public Meeting Report

Attendance -- 8  (Steven and I trained and sparred for an audience of up to 6

Time 13:00 - 16:50 (they had already turned down the lights to encourage folks to head home before we took our last gear out)

Today we covered practical self-defense applications of the unarmed "wrestling" moves detailed in Sigmund Ringeck's 15th century "The Knightly Arts of Combat".  We worked through the 6 Mort Stoss (a.k.a. "Death Blows" or "Murder Strikes"), the 4 Bain Bruchen ("Bone Breakings"), and a number of other counterattacks.  After covering the primary targets and methods of striking described throughout the text, we donned additional protective gear for sparring.  Intrigued by the commotion, several library visitors dropped in for a closer look.  Over the course of the next 2 hours, we demonstrated, discussed and sparred with longswords, rapier vs. baskethilt, rapier & buckler vs. baskethilt, etc.  Our audience stayed until we had to pack up at the end of the day.
